Testimonials

"I’ve been working with Careid for several years over Zoom. She has the amazing ability to zone in on my alignment even during a zoom call. She is extremely skilled at planning a session based on needs including restorative and active practices. She is patient, kind, and respecting of individual needs and most of all, is always motivating and encouraging. I highly recommend her as a teacher. "

-Harlan Kilstein, Private Yoga Client

"Thank you for your Balance Workshop. It was very helpful and I learned a lot about the body that I either did not know or just never gave it much thought. Learning about the vestibular system was especially interesting to me. I’m glad you validated what I was recently beginning to think that working on balance is not a once and done. I know my balance is improving with yoga, but good to know that this will always need to be something I’m working on. As always, I appreciate everything you do in your regular yoga classes, too."

-Sandra Shore, Yoga for Healthy Aging: Finding Balance Attendee

"Careid is an exceptional yoga teacher with the gift of modifying postures for all levels ensuring that everyone feels included and challenged in her classes. I always leave her sessions feeling empowered and safe in my body. Careid's expertise extends beyond just physical practice as she is also a mentor who has helped me deepen my yoga practice and mindfulness journey. Each time I take her class, I learn something new and leave with a sense of calm and inner strength. I highly recommend Careid to anyone looking for a supportive and knowledgeable yoga teacher. "

-Julie DiNanno, Yoga Student, 200hr YTT Mentee

"Thank you for your wonderful classes. Participating in them has kept my body in better shape as I deal with the downside of aging! Seeing you and the group also is a spirit lifting thing during these difficult Covid times. I am so glad that we are still online. You are so positive and supportive in your instruction. Your classes are a high point of my day."

Meet Careid

I believe yoga is truly for every body; irrespective of age, race, size, shape, ability, socioeconomic background, gender identity, caste, etc. I aim to lead classes that are welcoming, well rounded, and adaptive, with a dash of wry humor thrown in. If you have a body, you already have a yoga body!

I have been teaching yoga in the Chicago area since 2012 and hold a 500 hour certification, with over 2000 hours of training and 5000 hours of teaching. My background is in classical alignment based Hatha and Vinyasa lineages, Yoga Philosophy, and Yoga Therapeutics. Most recently my focus of study has been Yoga for Osteoporosis, Somatics, as well as Functional Mobility. From my background in the visual arts, I have found that an in-depth knowledge of human anatomy, the mechanics of alignment, mobility, and sometimes even physics, are essential to create a productive and injury-free yoga experience.

Adaptive yoga is a style of yoga that considers all bodies and abilities. It’s accessible to everyone, with multiple variations of asanas (yoga poses) taught, allowing them to be adapted to specific needs and abilities. Yoga props are often used and many common household items can be utilized, so don’t worry if you don’t have a full arsenal of props at your home.

Trauma-informed yoga (TIY) describes an approach to the practice that addresses the specific needs and symptoms of trauma survivors.

Trauma-informed yoga teachers are trained to be conscious of trauma and understand how trauma intersects with the practice.

This form of yoga may include self-regulation strategies to:

  • increase body awareness (interoception) in a safe and controlled way, which can promote feelings of physical, emotional, and psychological safety

  • address nervous system dysregulation, dissociation, and feelings of disconnection from the body or surroundings, which are common after experiencing trauma

I hear ya! Let’s work together to figure out a price point or arrangement that does. I truly believe yoga should be accessible to all. No one will be turned away for lack of funds, and I’d love to have you in class!

Yes! Sharing yoga with friends, family and/ or co-workers can be a great way to spend time together. Let’s talk about how many people, location and frequency. This will help me determine an appropriate sliding scale for you or your organization.

Most probably, yes! Please reach out and suggest a few times that work for you. There is a fair chance we can work together to find a time and place that suits your schedule better. I teach at various locations and times throughout the week in and around Chicago (yes, more than what you see in the schedule on this website), so there is a possibility I can add a session either before or after an existing class or private. Long story short, I’d love to work with you and look forward to hearing from you soon.
